Rajma Masala

Rajma masala is a protein-rich healthy food and is one of the best accompaniment for chappathi/roti.


What you need for Rajma Masala:
  • Red Kidney Beans - 1 cup soaked in water for 4-5 hours
  • Onion - 1 finely chopped
  • Tomato - 2 finely chopped
  • Green chilly - 2 chopped
  • Ginger-garlic paste - 1 tbsp
  • Cumin seeds - 1/2tbsp
  • Coriander powder - 2tbsp
  • Chilli powder - 1/2tbsp
  • Garam masala powder - 1tbsp
  • Kasthoori methi - 1/2tbsp
  • Cilantro - a bunch
  • Salt to taste
  • Butter - 1tbsp(optional)
    The preparation method:
    • Pressure cook the Rajma/Red Kidney Beans with salt for 2-3 whistles.Make sure the beans are not overly cooked.Keep aside the water for later use.
    • Heat the oil in a pan and crack cumin/jeera seeds. Fry the chopped onions for 5 minutes. Add ground garam masala powder.
    • Add the grounded ginger-garlic paste,chilli powder and water kept aside from step 1. Cook again for 3 minutes
    • .Add the chopped tomato and green chilli to this mixture and cook until well done.
    • Add the coriander powder and salt. Add some crushed kasthoori(dry fenugreek leaves).
    • Finally,add the boiled Rajma and cook for 5 minutes in low flame.Add butter(optional..give us a nice flavour).
    • Garnish with coriander leaves and hot & spicy Rajma Masala is ready to be served.
