Paalak or Spinach dal is a very healthy dish that can be relished with any Indian bread or rice.
- Toor Dal-1 cup
- Spinach-1 cup chopped
- Cumin-1/2 tbsp
- Green chilli-2
- Onion-1 chopped fine
- Tomato -2 chopped fine
- Garlic-4 pods
- Red chilli-2
- Curry leaves -few
- Mustard seeds-1/2 tbsp
- Turmeric powder-a pinch
- Hing-a pinch
- Butter-1 tbsp
- Salt to taste
The preparation method:
- Pressure cook toor dal and keep aside. Make sure dal is not over cooked – it should cooked enough to actually be visible in the dish rather than totally mashed.
- Heat oil and splutter mustard seeds and crackle cumin seeds.
- Add whole red chilli,sliced garlic and onions and sauté till onions turn transparent.
- Add turmeric,hing,curry leaves ,chopped chilli and cook for 2 minutes.
- Add chopped tomatoes and cook till they are half cooked
- Add spinach ,butter and cook for 2 minutes and finally add dal.
- Add salt and finish when paalak or spinach is well cooked.
- Healthy Paalak dal is ready to be served with Indian bread or rice.
