Chembu Astram

Chembu(seppam kizangu/aravi/colcasia) Astram is typical Kerala cuisine which is a great combination with kanji or rice gruel.


What you need for chembu astram:
  • Chembu(seppam kizangu/aravi/colcasia)-6 peeled
  • Coconut-1/2 
  • Chilli powder-1 tbsp
  • Turmeric powder-a pinch
  • Small onion-6 peeled
  • Cumin-1/2 tbsp
  • Mustard seeds-1/2 tbsp
  • Red chilli-2
  • Curry leaves-few
  • Curd-1 cup
The preparation method:
  • Boil the chembu with salt,turmeric powder and chilli powder.
  • Grind the coconut fine with cumin and small onion.
  • Add this grinded mixture to the chembu.
  • Add curd and mix well.
  • For seasoning, Saute 2 small onions,curry leaves red chilli and mustard seeds with little oil.
  • Serve hot with kanji/rice gruel or just plain rice.

  2. This should be enough for atleast 4. We had taken only a little of the curry for taking photo. You can increase the quantity of the ingredients to serve more. Tjanks for visiting our blog. Please keep coming for more recipes.
