Moong Daal Halwa

Moong Daal Halwa is a flavourful Indian dessert made with yellow split moong dal, ghee sweetened with sugar and flavoured with the fragrance of cardamom powder. It’s a classic and calorie rich Rajasthani dessert prepared during Holi and Diwali festivals. It is considered to be an auspicious dish and prepared in most wedding menus.

What you need for Moong daal halwa:
  • Moong daal - 1 cup
  • Sugar -1 cup
  • Milk - 1/2 cup
  • Nuts - 3 tbsp(raisins,pistachio,badam, and cashew)
  • Ghee -5 tbsp
  • Cardamom powder -1tbsp
The preparation method:
  • Soak the moong daal for 2 hrs. Grind it coarsely. keep it aside
  • Heat ghee in a non stick pan and add the grounded moong daal along with  milk.
  • Keep Stirring. When daal turns brown, add sugar. Keep stirring till the moong daal becomes dry and all the raw smell goes. It is slow process.Be patient as it will take minimum half an hour to be done.
  • Add the chopped nuts and cardamom powder.
  • Moong daal halwa is ready to be served.
