Cabbage Upperi/Poriyal

Cabbage Upperi/Poriyal is a easy to make side-dish for rice and is a common dish in the South Indian weddings.
What you need to make Cabbage Upperi/Poriyal :
  • Cabbage-1 cup - chopped well
  • Onion-1- chopped well
  • Green chilly-3 - slit into halves
  • Chana dal-2tbsp
  • Mustard seeds-1tbsp
  • Turmeric powder-a pinch
  • Curry leaves-a few
  • Salt-to taste
The preparation method:
  • Heat some oil in a pan and splutter some mustard seeds.Roast the chana dal till they turn brown.
  • Sauté the chopped onions,green chilli ,and curry leaves for a while till the onions turn golden brown.
  • Add the chopped cabbage, a pinch of turmeric and salt to taste.
  • Sprinkle a little water and cook in a medium flame for 10 minutes till the cabbage is cooked well.
  • Hot and spicy cabbage is ready to served hot with rice.
