Egg Bonda

Egg bonda is a favourite snack made at road-side Tea shops in Chennai. This is a simple and easy to make snack.

What you need to make Egg Bonda:
  • Egg(obviously) - 4 boiled and slit into halves
  • Besan/Kadala maavu - 1 cup
  • Red chilli - 1 tbsp ( according to spice level)
  • Turmeric - a pinch
  • Salt to taste
  • Optionally you can also add chopped onion and green chilli
The preparation method:
  • Make a thick paste of the besan/kadala maavu by adding water, red chilli, turmeric and salt.
  • Dip the boiled and slit egg pieces into this paste making sure all sides of the egg is coated well.
  • Heat some oil in a pan and drop this besan coated egg into the hot oil.Ideally the egg should be completely submerged in oil but in these days of dieting....
  • Deep fry till the coating of the egg turns brown.
  • Place the egg bonda onto a absorbing tissue paper in order to take away the excess oil.
  • Hot egg bonda is ready to served with tea !
