Puffed rice balls / Pori Unda

Puffed rice balls/Pori Unda is a very popular snack in the Kerala Temple Festivals (Pooram).The recipe on hand is simple yet so tasty. It has only 2 main ingredients. 

What you need for Pori unda:
  • Pori / Rice puffs - 1 cup
  • Jaggery – 2 pieces 
  • Cardamom powder –a pinch
  • Dry Ginger powder - a pinch (optional)
  • Finely chopped coconut – a few pieces (optional)
The Preparation method:
  • Dissolve jaggery in a little water and filter to remove impurities if any. Heat it until it forms one thread consistency.The syrup should not be  too watery and too thick.
  • Add cardamom powder,dry ginger powder and grated coconut. Mix the syrup well.
  • Pour this syrup in to the pori and make balls out of it. Jaggery hardens as it cools off. You should be real quick in forming the balls.
  • Tasty pori unda is ready to be served as snack.
