Simple Kerala Fish curry

There are many way to prepare Kerala fish curry - probably the most popular non-veg dish of Kerala. This is a simple version of this popular curry.

What you need to make Fish curry:
  • Fish - 250 gm ( king fish or sardine )
  • Onion - 1 chopped
  • Green chilli - 2
  • Ginger - 1 piece chopped
  • Tomato - 1 pureed
  • Curry leaves - few
  • Gambooge/Kudampuli/Tamarind - 1 piece ( soaked in water)
  • Fenugreek seeds - 1/2 tbsp
  • Coriander powder - 2 tbsp
  • Chilli powder - 1 tbsp
  • Turmeric powder - 1/2 tbsp
  • Salt to taste
The preparation method:
  • Heat oil in a pan.Splutter fenugreek seeds.Add onions,ginger,green chilli curry leaves and salt.
  • Saute well.When the onion turns brown, add coriander powder,chilli powder and,turmeric powder.
  • Mix it well.Add the tomato puree and tamarind /Kudampuli water in to it.Add little water and allow it to boil.
  • When it starts boiling add fish in to it.Boil till the fish is well cooked. Do not mix too much as this will break the fish.
  • Fish curry is ready to be served with rice.
