Chow Chow Koottu

Chow Chow or banglore kathirikai kootu is an excellent accompaniment for any south indian gravy.

What  you need for Chow Chow koottu:
  • Chow chow -1 cut in to cubes
  • Chana daal - 1 cup
  • Grated coconut -1/2 shell
  • Chilli powder -1 tbsp
  • Cumin seeds-1/2 tbsp
  • Mustard seeds -1 tbsp
  • Turmeric powder -1/4 tbsp
  • Red chilli -1
  • Curry leaves -few
  • Hing - a pinch
  • Salt to taste
The preparation method:
  • Pressure cook the chana daal and chow chow with salt and turmeric powder for minimum 3 whistles
  • Grind the coconut with red chilli powder and cumin seeds.
  • Add this ground mixture in to the pressure cooked chow chow.
  • Cook for few minutes and switch off the flame.
  • Heat oil in a pan. Splutter mustard seeds,fry red chilli and curry leaves.
  • Pour this in to the curry.
  • Chow chow koottu is ready to be served with rice.
