Vazhathandu / Unnithandu / Banana Stem Poriyal

Banana stem / Vazha thandu / Unni thandu  is rich in fiber. The juice of banana stem is a good remedy for kidney stone and also improve the functionality of kidney and liver.This dish is very simple and easy to make. Definitely healthy too.

What you need for Banana Stem Poriyal:
  • Banana stem-1 piece
  • Rice-3 tbsp
  • Pepper corn-1 tbsp
  • Cumin seeds-1/2 tbsp
  • Red chilli-2
  • Curry leaves-few
  • Mustard seed-1 tbsp
  • Turmeric powder-a pinch
  • Salt to taste
The preparation method:
  • Take a pan and dry roast rice,pepper ,cumin,red chilli and curry leaves.Grind it and keep aside.
  • Heat some oil in a pan.Splutter mustard seeds,red chilli and curry leaves.
  • Add the finely chopped banana stem to this.
  • Add salt and turmeric powder.Sprinkle some water and allow it to boil.
  • When it is done add the grinded powder(from step 1) to this. Mix well.
  • Yummy and healthy Banana Stem Poriyal is ready to be served with rice.
