Pumpkin Green gram erissery / curry

The combination of Pumpkin and Green gram makes this tasty Kerala dish.

What you need for pumpkin green gram curry:
  • Pumpkin - 1 piece cut in to small pieces
  • Green gram - 1 cup
  • Garlic pods - 2
  • Grated coconut - 1 cup
  • Cumin seeds - 2 tsp
  • Green chillies -4
  • Turmeric powder - 1/2 tbsp
  • Mustard seeds - 1 tbsp
  • Red chillies - 2
  • Curry leaves -  few
  • Small onion- 2chopped
  • Salt to taste
The preparation method:
  • Cook the pumpkin with green gram, garlic, salt and turmeric powder. 
  • Smash the pumpkin pieces moderately, so that it is mixed well with the green gram. 
  • Let this mixture remain thick and not watery. 
  • Grind together coconut, green chillies and cumin seeds.
  • Mix it with the cooked pumpkin-gram mixture. 
  • Add water to get the required consistency.
  • Bring it to a boil. 
  • Heat coconut oil in a frying pan.
  • Splutter mustard seeds. 
  • Add curry leaves, chopped onion and red chillies to it. 
  • Saute, until the onion turns golden brown. 
  • Pour the above seasoning into the pumpkin-gram mix.
  •  Yummy and tasty green gram pumpkin erissery / curry is ready to be serve with rice.
