Long Beans or Payar is very popular vegetable in Kerala. The poriyal or upperi is a very tasty side dish for rice.

- Payar-1/2 kg chopped into small pieces
- Onion-1 chopped fine
- Green chilli-2 slit
- Curry leaves-few
- Mustard seed-1 tbsp
- Salt to taste
The preparation method:
- Heat oil in a pan and splutter mustard seeds.Add onion,green chilli,curry leaves and salt
- Saute till the onions turn slightly golden brown.
- Add payar or long beans in to it.Sprinkle little water and allow them to cook
- Switch off the gas when the payar is well done
- Tasty payar poriyal or upperi is ready to be served with rice esp curd rice.
