Cherupayar or Green Gram is good source of proteins. Cherupayar Masala curry is a simple and nutritious dish which goes great with Puttu.
What you need for cherupayar masala curry:
- Green Gram(Whole)(Cherupayar) - 1 cup
- Cloves(Grambu) - 2 nos
- Cinnamon(Karugapatta) - 1 " piece
- Cardamom(Elakka) - 2 nos
- Aniseeds(Perinjeerakam) - 1/2 tsp
- Chilly powder - As reqd
- Coriander powder - As reqd
- Mustard seeds - 1 tbsp
- Tomato - 3 nos
- Onion - 4 nos
- Salt - As reqd
- Curry leaves - a sprig
The preparation method:
- Pressure Green Gram with little salt.Keep aside.
- Heat oil in a pan. Splutter mustard seeds.
- Add the whole garam masalas and chopped onions with salt and curry leaves. Saute the onions till they turn transparent.
- Add turmeric,coriander and red chilli powder. Mix well.
- Add chopped tomatos and cook till they are done.
- Add the pressure cooked Green Gram to this and mix well.
- Green Gram or Cherupayar Masala curry is ready to be served hot with Puttu or roti.
