Parippu Curry

Parippu Curry is a delicacy of Kerala. Like most of the curries of the state, this one too is made with a blend of coconut along with a spices tempered all with that mystic flavour of coconut oil.

What You Need For Parippu /Daal Curry :
  • Toor daal or moong daal - 1 cup
  • Grated coconut - 1/2 shell 
  • Cumin seeds - 1/2 tbsp
  • Shallots - 3
  • Turmeric powder - 1/4 tbsp
  • Green chillies - 2
  • Garlic - 2 pods ( optional )
  • Ginger - a small piece 
  • Mustard seed - 1 tbsp
  • curry leaves - few
  • Red chilli -2
  • Salt to taste
The Preparation method:
  • Cook  daal  in a pressure cooker by adding water and salt  for  three whistles or until done.Mash it well
  • Grind grated coconut,green chilli, cumin ,ginger,garlic and shallots  to a fine paste
  • Add this grounded paste to the mashed daal and mix it well..
  • Add salt, if needed.Boil for 5 minutes.Switch off the gas.
  • Heat oil in a pan.Splutter  mustard seeds, add shallots , red chilli and curry leaves.
  • Pour this in to the curry .
  • Tasty Parippu curry is ready to have with  rice.
