Parippu Rasam

Paruppu rasam is a simple and flavorful rasam made with Toor dhal as main ingredient. This is one among the Brahmin popular recipes from Tamil Nadu.

What you need for Parippu Rasam:
  • Toor Daal  - 1 cup
  • Tomato -1 
  • Garlic -4 pods
  • Small onion - 2
  • Curry leaves - few
  • Pepper powder -1 tbsp
  • Coriander powder - 1/2tbsp
  • Cumin powder -1/4 tbsp
  • Turmeric powder -a pinch
  • Hing -a pinch
  • Tamarind -1 lemon size
  • Mustard seed -1 tbsp
  • Red chilli - 1
  • Salt to taste
The preparation method:
  • Pressure cook the Toor Daal with tomato ,salt and turmeric powder.
  • Crush the garlic and shallots and keep aside.
  • Add tamarind water,crushed garlic and shallots in to the pressure cooked daal.
  • Add coriander powder,cumin powder,pepper powder and hing.
  • Boil for some time.Finally add curry leaves and coriander leaves.
  • Heat oil in a pan.Splutter mustard seed ,fry red chilli and curry leaves.
  • Pour this in to rasam.
  • Healthy and Paruppu / Toor Daal  rasam  is ready to served with rice.
