Chow Chow or banglore kathirikai kootu is an excellent accompaniment for any south indian gravy.

- Chow chow -1 cut in to cubes
- Chana daal - 1 cup
- Grated coconut -1/2 shell
- Chilli powder -1 tbsp
- Cumin seeds-1/2 tbsp
- Mustard seeds -1 tbsp
- Turmeric powder -1/4 tbsp
- Red chilli -1
- Curry leaves -few
- Hing - a pinch
- Salt to taste
The preparation method:
- Pressure cook the chana daal and chow chow with salt and turmeric powder for minimum 3 whistles
- Grind the coconut with red chilli powder and cumin seeds.
- Add this ground mixture in to the pressure cooked chow chow.
- Cook for few minutes and switch off the flame.
- Heat oil in a pan. Splutter mustard seeds,fry red chilli and curry leaves.
- Pour this in to the curry.
- Chow chow koottu is ready to be served with rice.
