- Spinach – 1 bunch
- Moong dal – 1/2 cup
- Coconut – 1/4 cup
- Green chillies – 2
- Turmeric powder – 1/4 tsp
- Asafoetida – a pinch
- Mustard Seeds – 1/2 tsp
- Red chilly – 1
- Cumin -1 tbsp
- Onion – 3 tbsp
- Salt to taste
- Pressure cook moong dal for 3 whistles by adding the turmeric powder,salt and asafoetida.
- Wash the spinach well, and boil with very little water and salt till they become soft.
- Now add the pressure-cooked moong dal to this and allow it to boil for 5 minutes.
- Grind the coconut,cumin and green chillies to a fine paste and add it to the boiling mixture.
- Boil it for few minutes till the raw flavour goes.
- For seasoning , splutter mustard seeds in another pan. Add red chilly and onion and fry till the onions become translucent and add the seasoning to the spinach.
- Serve hot with rice.
