Mango Pachadi & Pickle

If you have a raw mango and wondering what to do with it...there are 2 yummy dishes you can make out of it.
One is mango pickle and the other is mango pachadi (more like chutney). These two dishes goes well with rice.
The preparation time is less than 10 minutes for both these dishes.


Let us first make mango pickle.Cut the raw mango into two halves.Cut one half into small pieces(as shown in the picture).Keep the other half away for the pachadi.
What you need for Mango Pickle:
  • Chilli powder - 2 tbsp ( according to your spice tolerance level)
  • Mustard Seeds - 1/2 tbsp
  • Curry Leaves - a few leaves
  • Salt - according to taste
  • Oil - 2 tbsp (preferably coconut oil)
  • Vinegar - 2 tbsp ( if you want to preserve this pickle for a long time)
The preparation method:
  • Sprinkle the chilli powder and salt on the cut mango pieces.Mix them well.
  • Now for the tempering.Splutter mustard seeds in coconut oil and add the curry leaves to it.Make sure curry leaves are not burnt.The whole process should take less than 30 seconds.
  • Add this tempered mix to our cut mango pieces.Add vinegar if you want to preserve this pickle for a long time.Ensure you don't use your hand to touch the pickle as it may cause the pickle to spoil soon.
  • That's it! Spicy mango pickle is ready.





Now we will work on the mango pachadi.Cut away the skin of the mango and chop into small pieces ( as shown in the picture below).
What you need for Mango Pachadi:
  • chopped mango pieces(minus the skin)
  • chopped coconut pieces
  • Green chilli  - 2
  • Mustard seed - 3/4 tbsp
  • Cumin/Jeera seed - 1/2 tbsp
  • Salt to taste
The preparation method:
  • Very simple.Grind all the ingredients together into a fine paste.Add a little water if necessary.
