Vazhakka bhajji

No visit to Chennai beach is complete without relishing the long,slender,spicy vazhakka bhajji(dripping in oil).
Longing for those days.....


What you need for vazhakka bhajji:
  • 1 Raw banana - thinly sliced length-wise
  • Gram flour-1 cup
  • Rice flour-1/4 cup
  • Red chilli powder-1 tbsp
  • Turmeric powder-1/2 tbsp
  • Salt to taste
  • Pinch of cooking soda
The preparation method:
  • Make a thick batter of gram flour, rice flour, turmeric powder, red chilli powder, salt and cooking soda. Peel the skin of the raw banana and cut it into thin slices lengthwise.
  • Dip the slices in the gram flour batter and fry them in hot oil till golden brown. Use a tissue paper to drain out excess oil.
  • Spicy Vazhakka Bhajji is ready to be served hot with chutney of your choice.
