Chum Chum

Chum Chum is a popular Bengali sweet dish that is made with Paneer. This is a simple recipe to make and very yummy in taste.

What you Need for Chum Chum :
  • Whole Milk - 1 liter (at least 2% fat milk)
  • Sugar -3 cup
  • Cardamom -6 no
  • Lemon juice -4 tbsp
  • Saffron - 5 strands
  • Pistachio - 6
  • Coconut powder -As required
  • Color - a pinch optional
The Preparation method:
  • Boil milk in a heavy bottomed pan.Keep stirring occasionally to ensure the milk doesn't get burned.
  • Once the milk start boiling, add the lemon juice slowly.Keep stirring ,once the milk will start curdling switch off the flame.
  • Use a cheese cloth or muslin cloth or any clean cloth to strain the water from the paneer .
  • Once the water is completely strained , knead the paneer like chapathi dough.Now you can add color if you want .
  • Make small balls of equal sizes and roll them between your palms make them into oval shape and keep aside.
  • In a separate wide pan boil water .Once the water starts boiling add cardamom ,saffron and sugar.
  • When the sugar dissolves lower the flame and gently drop the paneer balls in to this syrup.
  • Put the lid on and cook for 15 minutes in medium flame.
  • Once the paneer balls will become puffed, switch off the flame and allow it to cool.
  • In a plate , put some coconut powder and roll the chum chum in the coconut powder till they are coated evenly.You can decorate with sliced pistachio pieces.
  • Yummy chum chum is ready to be relished.
