We were bored with the normal tomato rasam(recipe available here) and decided to make a variation of rasam uses pineapples in the rasam instead of tomatoes. Adding pineapple subtly changes the taste of the rasam giving it a more fruity and exotic touch.

- Pineapple-5 small pieces
- Pepper-2 tbsp
- Garlic-2 pods
- Red chilli-2
- Tamarind-1 small ball sized - soaked in water
- Hing-a pinch
- Curry leaves-few
- Turmeric powder-a pinch
- Cumin-1/2 tbsp
- Salt to taste
- Mustard seed-1/2 tbsp
The preparation method:
- Boil the pineapple with salt and turmeric powder.
- Grind or crush the garlic,cumin,pepper and curry leaves
- Add this mixture to the pan.
- Add tamarind juice.
- For seasoning , splutter mustard seeds with curry leaves and red chilli.
- Add this seasoning to our pineapple rasam.
- Fruity Pineapple rasam is ready to be served hot with rice!
