Paalak Dal

Paalak or Spinach dal is a very healthy dish that can be relished with any Indian bread or rice.

What you need for Paalak Dal:

  • Toor Dal-1 cup 
  • Spinach-1 cup chopped
  • Cumin-1/2 tbsp
  • Green chilli-2 
  • Onion-1 chopped fine
  • Tomato -2 chopped fine
  • Garlic-4 pods
  • Red chilli-2
  • Curry leaves -few
  • Mustard seeds-1/2 tbsp
  • Turmeric powder-a pinch
  • Hing-a pinch
  • Butter-1 tbsp
  • Salt to taste
The preparation method:
  •  Pressure cook toor dal and keep aside. Make sure dal is not over cooked – it should cooked enough to actually be visible in the dish rather than totally mashed.
  •  Heat oil and splutter mustard seeds and crackle cumin seeds.
  •  Add whole red chilli,sliced garlic and onions and sauté till onions turn transparent.
  • Add turmeric,hing,curry leaves ,chopped chilli and cook for 2 minutes.
  • Add chopped tomatoes and cook till they are half cooked
  • Add spinach ,butter and cook for 2 minutes and finally add dal. 
  • Add salt and finish when paalak or spinach  is well cooked.
  • Healthy Paalak dal is ready to be served with Indian bread or rice.
