Curd rice/Thairu saadam

Curd rice or Thairu saadam is a simple South Indian delicacy and truly a comfort food! In South Indian home cuisine, it is standard to eat curd rice at the end of every lunch and dinner, which helps ease the effects of the notoriously spicy main dishes.This is a rich version of curd rice.


What you need for Curd rice:
  • Rice-1 cup
  • Curd -1 cup
  • Ginger-1 piece chopped fine
  • Green chilli-1 chopped fine
  • Curry leaves-few
  • Chana daal-1 tbsp
  • Cashew-6 broken
  • Grapes-10
  • Red chilli-2
  • Mustard seeds-1/2 tbsp
  • Hing-a pinch
  • Peanuts-10
  • Cilantro few
  • Salt to taste
The preparation method:

  •  Mash the cooked rice with your hands. Combine the rice, curd, grapes and salt. Mix well.
  • Sauté the green chilly in a pan until soft. Add it to the rice mixture.
  • Heat a teaspoon of ghee (butter) or olive oil in a pan. Add the channa dal, mustard seeds, urad dal, red chilly, curry leaves, hing and ginger. Stir it for few seconds and finally add the cashews. Combine with rice. 
  • Yummy and rich curd rice is ready to be served with pickles or vegetable side dish.
