Pineapple Rasam

We were bored with the normal tomato rasam(recipe available here) and decided to make a variation of rasam uses pineapples in the rasam instead of tomatoes. Adding pineapple subtly changes the taste of the rasam giving it a more fruity and exotic touch.


What you need for Pineapple Rasam:
  • Pineapple-5 small pieces
  • Pepper-2 tbsp
  • Garlic-2 pods
  • Red chilli-2
  • Tamarind-1 small ball sized - soaked in water 
  • Hing-a pinch
  • Curry leaves-few
  • Turmeric powder-a pinch
  • Cumin-1/2 tbsp
  • Salt to taste
  • Mustard seed-1/2 tbsp
The preparation method:
  • Boil the pineapple with salt and turmeric powder.
  • Grind or crush the garlic,cumin,pepper and curry leaves
  • Add this mixture to the pan.
  • Add tamarind juice.
  • For seasoning , splutter mustard seeds with curry leaves and red chilli.
  • Add this seasoning to our pineapple rasam.
  • Fruity Pineapple rasam is ready to be served hot with rice!
