Cherupayar Masala curry


Cherupayar or Green Gram is good source of proteins. Cherupayar Masala curry is a simple and nutritious dish which goes great with Puttu.

What you need for cherupayar masala curry:
  • Green Gram(Whole)(Cherupayar) - 1 cup
  • Cloves(Grambu) - 2 nos
  • Cinnamon(Karugapatta) - 1 " piece
  • Cardamom(Elakka) - 2 nos
  • Aniseeds(Perinjeerakam) - 1/2 tsp
  • Chilly powder - As reqd
  • Coriander powder - As reqd
  • Mustard seeds - 1 tbsp
  • Tomato - 3 nos
  • Onion - 4 nos
  • Salt - As reqd
  • Curry leaves - a sprig
The preparation method:
  • Pressure Green Gram with little salt.Keep aside.
  • Heat oil in a pan. Splutter mustard seeds.
  • Add the whole garam masalas and chopped onions with salt and curry leaves. Saute the onions till they turn transparent.
  • Add turmeric,coriander and red chilli powder. Mix well.
  • Add chopped tomatos and cook till they are done. 
  • Add the pressure cooked Green Gram to this and mix well.
  • Green Gram or Cherupayar Masala curry is ready to be served hot with Puttu or roti.
