Andhra Kodi masala

A traditional chicken (Kodi in telugu) curry from Andhra Pradesh.This is very simple yet tasty recipe.The twist in this recipe is that almost all ingredient for this dish is added in the marination process itself.

What you need for Kodi Masala:
  • Chicken - 1/2 kg cut into small cubes
  • Onion - 2 chopped
  • Tomato - 2 chopped
  • Green chilli - 2 chopped
  • Ginger garlic paste - 2 tbsp
  • Curry leaves - few
  • Coriander leaves - few
  • Whole garam masala -2 piece each of cloves,cinnamon, cardamom,star anise,bay leaf.
  • Turmeric powder- a pinch
  • Chilli powder - 2 tbsp
  • Garam masala powder - 1 tbsp
  • Salt to taste
The preparation method:
  • Marinate the chicken with ginger garlic paste,salt ,turmeric powder and chilli powder.
  • Add onion,tomato,green chilli,curry leaves ,coriander leaves and whole garam masala to this.
  • Mix well and marinate all the ingredients together for about 30 minutes.
  • Heat a kadai and add the marinated ingredients together (no oil or water at this stage).
  • The chicken will get cooked in its own moisture. 
  • Once the chicken is half cooked, add oil and mix well.
  • Add garam masala powder and cook till the chicken is well done.
  • Garnish with coriander leaves.
  • Very easy and spicy Kodi masala is ready to be served with rice or chapatti.
